Summer 2012, Great Britain’s great summer; millions are converging on London from around the world as we speak. Even if the weather’s a bit of a let-down, the vegetarian and vegan food on offer in London certainly isn’t. We’ll be doing a series on best veggie and vegan eats in London which should be on any vegetarian and vegan’s go-to list whilst in the capital, with a focus on tourist footfall areas.
On a Budget
Whether you’re visiting London just for sight-seeing or if you’ve paid to watch the Games, chances are, you’ll be watching the purse strings. Those tickets probably set you back enough, as will the train fares simply getting around London. And if you’re a fellow Londoner reading, you don’t need telling how to watch your pennies.
This cutesy basement restaurant should not be missed on a trip into/around Covent Garden. Food For Thought is a seasoned (pun intended…) little veggie place which has stood the test of time in London. They’ve been serving veggie and vegan grub since 1974. Believe me, the place is heaving during lunch time; hungry customers swarm from local offices to bagsie a seat on the chillaxed cosy benches in the white-washed basement or get lunch to take-away. And it’s no wonder. Food For Thought has a daily changing menu which is fresh, exciting and wholesome. The portion sizes are very decent for the price, with meal deals coming in comfortably under £10. They also provide free water, garnished with huge slices of grapefruit. What more could you want to satisfy your veggie/vegan heart? This place is a charmer.
Service 4.5/5 (it does get pretty busy so staff can sometimes be rushed off their feet, but always very happy to explain the dishes of the day)
We’ll be following up with more recommendations shortly, so watch this space!
